6 Barbaric Methods of Execution That are Still Used

Executions have certainly been around as long as the humans have been on earth. People who do unethical or non-acceptable stuff in the society are executed as a punishment for their crimes. So often it is a pretty simple affair, but not all the time. Here are 6 most barbaric methods of execution that are still used. Let's start with:

1. Amputation

[caption id="attachment_2047" align="aligncenter" width="230"]McKnight amputation Who made up this kind of punishment?[/caption]

Amputation as a punishment is very common Islamic countries like Iran, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. It is used to punish those who commit a crime like stealing, murder and so forth. Amputation involves the removal of any body part of the body including the limbs. It often involves the use removal of ears, eyes, teeth or penis, however the limbs are the most common. Most of the facial disfiguring is done in the name of punishment for the crimes, as a regular terrifying practice. This might not be any country's official execution method, but it is certainly used to execute the many offenders.

In order to execute an offender, they cut any part of his body either partial or total which in either case proves fatal without immediate medical attention. In the best cases, even if a person is able to live the horrors of amputation, all that he is left is with severe mental conditions and emotional discomfort.

2. Public Execution

[caption id="attachment_2048" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Siam public execution Horrifying, Inhuman and Disgusting![/caption]

Public execution is not so common these days.... well, at least it seems that way in the western countries. This has just disappeared in the mist. However, prior to the 20th century, it was among the most commonly used method of execution. Many nations have clearly banned public execution for the sake of 'humanity'. However, this can't be said for many others, which even to this day don't plead the mercy. In certain countries, it has never gone away and is widely used to deter people away from committing a crime.

The most recent and notable cases of public execution can be recalled from Iran which is seeing a large increase in the violent crimes throughout the population. Iranian government does hundreds of executions per year, and with this increase in the crime rates, they have switched the executions from behind the walls to public. For a long time, they executed the person behind the prison walls, but to inject the horror among people, they have gone public. Literally anyone can watch a person being executed with no concent of its affect on the society. This is not going to take them anywhere.

3. Cement Shoes

[caption id="attachment_2040" align="aligncenter" width="431"]Bugs' up for some trouble Bugs' up for some trouble[/caption]

Mainly coined by the American Mafia crime world, the word "cement shoes" has also become a slang term for many. It involves the person's feet to be weighted by the use of cement after which he is thrown into the water to drown and hence the name. This method has given the rise to the term "The one who sleeps with fishes". It is often used in a humorous way as a threat from criminals, but by the looks of it, I guess, it shouldn't be.

The one who is to be drowned is first incapacitated, and then each of his foot is placed in a cylinder which is then filled with cement. Once the cement sets off, the person is thrown into any water body to drown. Even though no official cases of execution can be found, there are certain evidences of its presence to even to this day.

4. Necklacings

[caption id="attachment_2043" align="aligncenter" width="358"]Death by Necklacing Sure would've hurt a lot[/caption]

In the process of necklacing, the victim is forced into a rubber tire filled with petrol which is then set on fire. It is a sort of summary execution in which a person accused of crime is killed immediately without the supervision of any higher authorities. A.K.A without any Trial. The whole process of capturing, torturing and killing the person is done in a very short span of time. The whole concept of necklacing is made more brutal by the fact that sometimes even the police, military or warfare organisations are directly involved. The whole process starts from severely beating victim and ends with his horrific death. The victim may take up to 20 minutes to die due to the severe burns and trauma. Necklacing is quite common in South Africa as a means of punishments for the offenders of the law and supposedly, their "religion".

5. Electrocution

[caption id="attachment_2045" align="aligncenter" width="375"]Thomas edison electric chair Edison was helluva creep[/caption]

Electrocution is among the newest methods of execution ever invented by mankind. Remember the old wooden chair from Ted Bundy's execution video. Well, if you don't, just watch the video embed below. Electrocution involves the person to be securely tied to a wooden chair along with a metal helmet on his head. This helmet is connected to a live electric supply, so when turned on, it just fries the victim.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxBctqJkTLI

The Electric chair is extensively used in countries like US. A large number of US states allow the person to choose their method of execution -- either by electric chair or lethal injection. If it were my case, I'd choose the lethal injection at any time. But, surprisingly enough, out of 16 people up for execution, 13 went with the Electrocution over lethal injection. The latest victim of electric chair was on 16th Jan, 2013 for Robert Gleason Jr.

6. Stoning to Death

[caption id="attachment_2049" align="aligncenter" width="420"]stoning to death I am never going to any Islamic country![/caption]

Stoning to death stands apart from all the other methods of executions mentioned here. This is because here, all of the community takes participation in killing the victim. It is among the oldest forms of executions as apparent from some phrases from the Bible. Although most of the 1st world countries have stopped Stoning to death, some countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan use it to punish rapists and murderers. It is also practiced in Middle east and sub-Saharan Africa.

Stoning doesn't involve trial or any kind of involvement by higher authorities which often leads to some disastrous results. For instance, a 13-year old girl named Zhila Izadyar was set up to get stoned to death in Iran. Her crime was that she was raped by her older "brother". As this news got some heat and some involvement by the International community, her life was saved. However, this was only one case, this happens throughout the world all the time without anyone's consent. In the latest case -- A Pakistani soldier was stoned to death over an affair.

For the process of stoning, the prisoner is buried waist high and then beaten by stones. According to the so-called rulebook, the stone being used should be large enough to cause physical damage, but not so large that it may cause instant death. This painful process usually lasts for about 10-15 minutes at most and almost always leads  to the deaths of the victim.

Don't watch these 5 Videos if you are scared of Heights

[caption id="attachment_725" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Pack sone shoes! Heights[/caption]

If you thing yourself as the faint of heart, leave now, as these are 5 most terrifying videos I can find that are pretty much as scary as Michel Jackson's face without a nose. Watch these videos in the comfort of your house while people do stupid things and post it over to the YouTube. Cheating death like a Ninja!!

[caption id="attachment_401" align="aligncenter" width="179"]MJ without nose Looks equally terrifying to Heights[/caption]

1. Riding a guided Tower

Seriously, these guys should be praised for what they are doing. I think, whatever they are paid for this is just not enough because climbing a 1700+ foot Guided tower to being your work day with it both scary and cool. If I were there, I'd take a parachute with me to take a dive after finishing the work.

2. And.... there's a Russian

Either the Red GUY is incredibly courageous or he's just extreme idiot .... oh, and that girl too. Russians these days, can do just about anything to trail the extremities. What's more annoying is the fact that he has got the friends that are too dumb to stop him.

3. The Edge Walk, CN Tower, Toronto

These people are not human! They don't give a crap about where they are actually standing at the moment. I'd have a panik attack instantaneously if I were in their shoes. Who knows! Anyway, I'm sure that Russians could do it without ropes (as they are drunk).

4. Scary Trail in Spain

This is some serious crap! This must be the height of rock climbing for humans. It looks old, but if you are terrified after watching this video, just think about those who actually built this structure.

5. Hua Shan plank walk in China

Chinese have made some incredible things in their backyard, no wonder they win all the Olympic medals. Imagine how'd it feel to be walking over the mouth of death with just a harness over your waist for the worst case scenario! Sounds incredible and dangerous altogether.

Top 10 most Controversial premature obituaries

For those who don't know, a premature obituary in simple words is an event when someone's death is falsely published or reported in media without any valid proof. Now, as this word has made its place in our dictionary, we can be sure that there might be some events going on related to it. So here you have it -- The list of Top 10 Famous People who were (at some point in their life) have been mistakenly reported dead.

1. Abe Vigoda

Abe Vigoda

Who can forget Abe Vigoda for his role of Sal Tessio in The Godfather? He also appeared in Barney Miller as Detective Sgt. Phil Fish which aired from 1975 to 1977. Vigoda gained fame mostly out of the supporting character he played in the Godfather, that's why he managed to make a brief appearance in the Godfather II in a flashback sequence.

In 1982, the People magazine mistakenly reported Abe Vigoda to be dead. At that time, Vigoda was performing in a stage play. Although the editors for People at that time were well known for messing things up, this blunder was taken very seriously by people, thus resulting in chaos. Although Vigoda took this mistake with good humour  many publications made out with him sitting up in a coffin holding an issue of the People. Since then, Vigoda has been subjected to many gags and further many more mistaken reports of his death, but to his luck, he is still alive.

2. Bob Barker

Bob Barker

Many of you may know him by his face and further more for his fun game show hosting. Bob Barker is a former television game show host best known for being the host of CBS's The Price is Right (1972-2007). This was ideally the longest running daytime show in the history of North American television. Some may also recall him for hosting Truth or Consequences (1956-1975). Below is a video of Baker's RIP video made by a fan.

Video link: here.

Sadly in the year 2007, the web and media was filled by false reports of Barker's death. This was proven as just a hoax when it was found out that instead of dying, he actually retired in the year 2007. A false video related to death was released to YouTube, but was later removed.

3. George Herbert Walker Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush was the 42st President of the United States. He served the Office from Jan 20, 1989 to Jan 20, 1993. Succeeded by Bill Clinton he is currently the oldest surviving President. Following the attacks on Pearl Harbour  Bush joined the US Navy and that so, only after graduating from Phillips Academy earlier in 1942. He became a naval aviator at the age of 18. Quite a number of achievements, if you ask me.

Bush in an erroneous manner was reported dead in an email sent by WBAP AM due to a false tip from a prankster. Ironically enough, Bush at that time was in the ICU for his recovery from some illness. Adding insult to injury, the German magazine erroneously published a draft for his death during the recovery time. As one time was not enough, Bush was again subjected to a death report when a CNN Headline News claimed that he had died (again). They wrote, Either George H.W. Bush or George W. Bush had died in the news ticker.

4. Neil Young

Neil Young

Neil Young is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He began performing with of a group covering Shadow instrumentals in 1960, before moving to California in 1966, where he co-founded the band Buffalo Springfield. He even came across a successful solo career by releasing his first album in 1968. He has to this date released over 35 studio albums in a career of 40 years.

Neil Young was falsely reported dead on August 25, 2013 by NBC News.com. A headline on NBC website reported  "Astronaut Neil Young, first man to walk on moon, dies at age 82". This was a blunder as a matter of fact, Neil Armstrong had died. NBC quickly rectified the error after  realisation of the situation. Some reports suggest that this happened because of a confusion between Armstrong and his fellow astronaut John Young, who as a matter of fact is still alive.

5. Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro is a communist revolutionary and an avid politician from Cubawho was the President of Cuba from 1976 to 2008. He served as the Commander in Chief of the armed forces from 1959 and as the First Secretary of the Communist party of Cuba.

A doctor who runs a sleep clinic in south Florida, told various media and news outlets that Castro had suffered massive bleeding in his brain and was therefore hailing in the life support systems. As always, the doctor, when asked about sources said "unknown sources" in Cuba. Castro was thus believed dead and received numerous phone calls by his followers. To the God's grace he is still healthy and happy. He quoted "I'm so healthy I don't 'even remember what a headache is!"

6. Jiang Zemin

Jiang Zemin

Jiang Zemin is a retired Chinese politician who served as the Secretary of the Communist Party of China from 1989 to 2002, President of People's republic of China from 1993 to 2003 and Chairman of the Central Military Commission from 1989 to 2005. He as a long carrier in political Chinese politics and his success has led him to be called as the "Core of the third generation of Communist Party leaders".

In 2011, Zemin faced many rumours of his death as a reason of his disappearance from the public events like the 90th anniversary of the Communist Party. This was just an Internet rumour so due to the well known habit of the Chinese government of censoring things, the words like "Jiang Zemin", "Zemin", "Jiang" and "Critically ill" were eradicated from the web. This was proven far from over when on 6th July, the Hong Kong media agencies carried the headlines like Jiang was Critically ill. The TV station ATV reported that Jiang has died in Beijing. He wasn't!

7.  James Earl Jones

James Earl Jones

James Earl Jones is an American Actor who is said to be the greatest and most versatile actors in American History. Proud winner of many awards, including a Tony Award and The Golden Globe Award for his role in The Great White Hope, Jones is also very well known for his voice acting in the Star Wars franchise.

Jones in 1998 was mistakenly pronounced dead during a radio broadcast of a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game by the host Lanny Frattare. Frattare had apparently confused him with James Earl Ray, Martin Luther King's assassination who had just recently died at that time.

8. Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs

The most famous of all those in the list, indeed. An American entrepreneur and inventor, best known for his role in Apple's success. Jobs is often called as a visionary due to his long term success of his products, most certain the iPhone and the Mac. His influence in the consumer electronics and the ever increasing sales of Apple products made him a very successful businessman.

Jobs on Aug 27th, 2008 along with Jill Scott was rumoured to be dead. First,  CBS’ “What’s Trending” Twitter feed reported that Jobs had died, although he hadn't. CBS corrected this soon after, but being a premium news source, it was widely believed. Steve Jobs died on  October 5, 2011.

9. Sean Connery

Sean Connery

The Scottish movie actor who has won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globes. Best known for playing the character of James Bond in the years 1962 and 1983; that is six Bond movies. Connery has been polled as "The Greatest Living Scot" and Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". In 1989, he was proclaimed "Sexiest Man Alive" by people magazine and in 1999, aged 69, he was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century".

In 1993, Connery was subjected to false news reports which claimed that the actor was undergoing radiation treatment as a cure of Throat cancer followed by his habit of heavy smoking. Some Japanese and South African news agencies falsely reported him dead. Connery immediately made an appearance in the Late Show with David Letterman to clarify all this. And for that Radiation treatment thing, he in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly said that it was just to remove his nodules from his vocal cords. Amazingly, his father was a heavy smoker and died due to throat cancer in 1972.

10. Gordon Lightfoot

Gordon Lightfoot

Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian Folk singer who sometimes also does Folk-Rock and Country music. He achieved international success and fame in the years of 1960-1970. He is many times referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter of all time. People claim him to be an international Folk-Rock legend. His songs "For Lovin' me
, "Early Morning Rain", "Ribbon of Darkness" and "Steel Rail Blues" were all number one hits on the US Country charts in the subsequent years of their release.

Lightfoot was mistakenly reported dead by CBC Radio 3, Canwest and Calgary Herald on Feb, 18, 2010. This was the work of Lightfoot's old friend Ronnie Hawkins who reported CBC about his death as a prank. At the time, Hawkins told the channels that he was the grandson of the singer. As always, all the media outlets ran out with the story claiming that Gordon Lightfoot was dead. Interestingly enough, he was at the dentist at the time this news story got the light.

The Maths Millennium Prize Problems Can Make You Rich

We hear our parents saying that Maths is one of the most important subject in our curriculum. But, apart from some basic calculations, we never use the Algebra and Differentiation taught in our daily lectures. But, Maths is truly important in our life. Here some maths problems that no one has solved until now.

Maths can Make you rich

Opposed to all this, I love math and even if we are never going to use all the complexities in our syllabus. Well, actually those who are going to do some work in the mathematical field are the only ones benefited by Algebra, but for all others, this is just plain black ink dots.

But all crap aside, here I am telling you that Maths can make you rich.

If you ask why.... just take note of the Millennium Prize Problems. These are a set of 7 different Mathematical Problems which if solved by any individual can earn him $1,000,000. Yes, this is six zeros!

The problems are as follows (linked to their respective Wikipedia page):

1. P vs NP
2. The Hodge Conjecture
3. The PPoincarë Conjecture (solved)
4. The Riemann Hypothesis
5. Yang-Mills existence and Mass gap
6. The well-posedness of the Navier-Stokes equations
7. The Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture

These were listed by the Clay Mathematics Institute in 2000 and as of 2012, six of these remain unsolved. If you happen to solve any one of these, you'll be awarded the US$1,000,000 prize for your efforts.

A Russian Mathematician Grigori Perelman solved The PPoincarë Conjecture, but that wise man declined the price in 2010.

As I am not very good at maths, I will not go to the technical details. However, If your want to try your luck, just head over to the Wikipedia page of the problem of your choice.

At last, before you try your luck with the Millennium Prize Problems, make sure that you don't get this thought in mind --
